foster the studio is research-based art and design practice building visual frameworks for liberation.
the studio investigates the invisible systems of oppression shaping human life. these are the structures we move through daily, but are rarely taught to perceive. treating art as a method of inquiry, the practice translates these structures into tangible & embodied experiences. core to the studio, is that recognition is the first act of transformation. to understand that a system was built, either by someone or for some purpose, is to understand that it can also be reconstructed.
the work moves through four modes:
fine art & visual language: paintings, mixed media, ceramics, & fabric works that map systems of oppression & imagine liberated ones.
writing: field\notes an ongoing newsletter developing the conceptual frameworks behind the studio.
design interventions: limited-edition objects and editions that carry the studio's frameworks into everyday life.
experiential learning: salons, workshops, exhibitions, and public programming that bring the work into community.
past clients & partners:
across every project, the studio asks the same question:
how can art expand our capacity to perceive, question, and reimagine the systems that define our lives, and how might we, together, build a future that holds our full humanity?
