“BUTTER” LA Education Day 2026:

Workshop Artist | inglewood ca | feb 27, 2026

on education day 2026, at BUTTER’s debut in LA foster the studio lead an activation called liberation is an ecosystem with 700 Youth from the Inglewood Unified School District. together, they capped how freedom is built, shared, and sustained.

the activation:

liberation is an ecosystem is a participatory art activation that reframes liberation as a living system, something built and sustained, like an ecosystem in nature, by many people, ideas, and actions working together over time.

across six collaborative canvas stations, students explore the six ecosystem components that help freedom grow: interdependence, energy, cycles, adaptability, diversity, and place. they rotate between stations, contributing drawings, words, and reflections to each, until every canvas holds the voice of every participant. that begins as six blank canvases becomes a six-part collective artwork, a visual map of how liberation is built, together.

the activation lives at the intersection of contemporary art, youth education, and community-building. it is built on a simple conviction: liberation isn't something that happens in a history book or a single moment. it's something people make every day, through care, creativity, and being in community. and it cannot be sustained without its youngest members.

the outcome:

through drawing, writing, building, collaboration and discussion, participants discover:

  • how change happens over time

  • why collaboration matters

  • how care, creativity, and adaptability sustain communities

  • how they are already part of these systems

the activation emphasizes systems thinking, creativity, pattern-making, and human agency. it is age-flexible, designed for middle and high school students but adaptable for younger children, college students, and adults.

liberation is an ecosystem is available for booking at schools, libraries, community centers, museums, festivals, and other gathering spaces. each activation is shaped to the host community, with framework, materials, and facilitation provided by foster the studio LLC.
